Riots in London and around the United Kingdom have resulted in widespread looting and buildings that have been set on fire. Several fires broke out in Croydon, including one at a large sofa factory which spread to neighboring buildings and tram lines.
Dozens of people were left homeless following rioting in Tottenham on Saturday after a peaceful demonstration over the death of a man who was shot by police turned violent. A number of people who have been taking photographs have been attacked. Looters raided a Debenhams store and a row of shops in Lavender Hill in Clapham, as well as shops in Stratford High Street. The globalized world is changing the institutions we rely upon for all classes - lower and middle classes. Now that was already going to increase tensions in a community where there are still lingering tensions between people and the police. But that entitlement comes from a much larger problem of being economically immobile, discriminated against and shut out of opportunity.
